September 2026, Winnemucca, Nevada — Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) is proud to announce the receipt of a $100,000 grant from the Wavedance Fund. The award will support Nevada Outdoor School's work providing meaningful outdoor education and youth development opportunities to underserved youth across Nevada.
The generous investment from the Wavedance Fund will help Nevada Outdoor School continue creating opportunities for young people to explore the outdoors, build confidence, develop essential life skills, and strengthen their connection to their communities and the natural world.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Wavedance Fund for this generous investment in Nevada's youth and for their belief in the work we do," said Melanie Erquiaga, Executive Director of Nevada Outdoor School. "This support will help us reach more young people with opportunities to explore, grow, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to thrive."
The Wavedance Fund supports programs that improve outcomes for vulnerable and at-risk children, with a particular focus on youth who have experienced neglect, abuse, trauma, or adversity. The Fund invests in programs that help prevent future trauma while building confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.
Nevada Outdoor School's programs align closely with this mission by creating safe, supportive environments where youth can experience success, try new things, build relationships, and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Through outdoor education, summer camps, community programs, and other hands-on experiences, NOS provides youth with opportunities to develop skills and confidence in settings that encourage exploration and personal growth.
Each year, Nevada Outdoor School serves thousands of rural youth and community members through outdoor education programs, summer camps, field trips, stewardship projects, and community events across Nevada. Through these experiences, participants gain practical outdoor skills, build self-confidence, strengthen teamwork and leadership abilities, and develop a lasting commitment to caring for public lands and natural resources.
