We
are coming up on my favorite time of year at Nevada Outdoor School. As summer
approaches, we are preparing for summer camps, but before we can fully jump
into summer fun, we have Black Rock Rendezvous, one of my favorite events of
the year! Rendezvous is an annual event, which takes place every Memorial Day
Weekend in the Black Rock Desert.
It
is a collaborative event hosted by Friends of Black Rock High Rock, Friends of
Nevada Wilderness, Nevada Outdoor School, and the Bureau of Land Management
Winnemucca.
Every
year the event hosts a variety of educational talks, guided and tours, and
stewardship/conservation projects. Families with children are encouraged to
attend, and Nevada Outdoor School runs a fun and educational Kids Camp for
children over 5 years of age.
On
Saturday night, Dutch oven cooks show off their skills during a Dutch oven
cook-off. Dutch oven cooks of all experience levels are encouraged to
participate! Sunday night there is a potluck burrito bar! After dinner, stay up
for a campfire sing along and stargazing, the Black Rock Desert has one of the
best night skies I have ever experienced.
Black
Rock Rendezvous is an awesome event for people who want to explore and learn
more about the Black Rock Desert. For more information, and a detailed schedule
of events go to blackrockrendezvous.org.
Happy Trails!
