2018 Annual Humboldt County Kids Fishing Day

Nevada Outdoor School was fortunate enough to partner with NDOW and the USFS at the recent 2018 Annual Humboldt County Kids Fishing Day event.  The event was located at Andorno Ranch Pond, 34 miles north of Winnemucca and coincided with Nevada Free Fishing Day.

The event brought many children and families outside.  NOS set up an outreach table where our Americorps Members Irma Mendoza and Ale Cruz played games and educated children on Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly!  Kids won prizes for the first fish out of the water in each age category as well as for the largest and smallest fish.  There was a bike raffle and of course the always popular casting contest.  Every child went home with a fishing prize, goodie bag and any fish they caught.  It was a huge success.  Even Smokey Bear made an appearance.   While the weather was not fantastic, it held out long enough for many kids to catch their limit of fish and have an awesome experience.   We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this awesome local event.  And we thank everyone who helps makes this event successful for the community and the kids.

Happy Trails!
